Oakland Municipal Code § 8.22.520 specifies the full set of data points that must appear on the annual rental unit registration form submitted to the City. The required information spans property ownership and management contacts, current and prior tenancy details (including rent amounts, security deposits, and reasons a prior tenancy ended), physical unit characteristics, and included housing services. The owner must sign the form under penalty of perjury, attesting that all submitted information is accurate as of the date specified on the form. The City also retains authority to request additional reasonable information beyond what is explicitly listed.

Operators subject to Oakland's annual registration requirement under § 8.22.520 generally ensure they have current records on hand before completing the form, since it calls for granular details such as the initial base rent at tenancy inception, the effective date of the last rent increase, security deposit amounts, and the reason any prior tenancy ended. Compliant operators also confirm that ownership and property management contact information is up to date, and that unit-level details—bedroom and bathroom counts, included services, and metering type—are accurately documented. Because the signature block carries a penalty-of-perjury attestation, operators typically verify all entries before signing and submitting the registration.

Under § 8.22.520, the City of Oakland collects detailed tenancy data through the registration process, including tenant names, move-in dates, rent history, and the stated reason any prior tenancy ended—information that can be relevant if a dispute arises about rent levels or the circumstances of a past eviction. Tenants who believe their unit's registration contains inaccurate information, or that a landlord has failed to register altogether, may raise that issue with Oakland's Rent Adjustment Program, which administers the registration system. Tenant-rights organizations in Oakland can help residents understand how registration data intersects with other protections under Chapter 8.22 and what general options exist for addressing discrepancies.
