Any word or phrase not defined here defaults to the definitions found in the Village's Property Maintenance Code and building codes.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Under § 15.36.030, property owners operating rental residential properties in Buffalo Grove should be aware that the defined term "owner" includes trust beneficiaries, and that a formally designated "property agent" must be identified in writing to the Code Official with authority to receive notices and citations. Operators who cannot immediately meet all Village requirements may be eligible for a conditional license of up to six months under special circumstances such as weather delays or material unavailability. Familiarity with these definitions helps ensure that licensing, notice, and compliance obligations under Chapter 15.36 are properly understood and met.

Section § 15.36.030 defines "tenant" as any occupant of a rental residential property, which establishes who is covered by the protections and requirements of Buffalo Grove's Residential Rental Housing Program. Tenants benefit from knowing that a designated property agent is required to have authority to receive official notices and citations, meaning there should be an identifiable point of contact for property management matters. Those with questions about how these definitions affect their rental situation may wish to contact the Village's Building Commissioner or a local tenant-rights organization for general guidance.
