Chicago Ridge — Ch. 14 Art. III Rental Units and Dwellings § 14-79
Transfer of license
Operative Text
No RRA license shall be transferable to another multiple dwelling or rental dwelling unit. Every person holding an RRA license shall give notice in writing to the village clerk within 24 hours after having transferred or otherwise disposed of the legal control of any licensed multiple dwelling or rental dwelling unit. Such notice shall include the name and address of the person succeeding to the ownership or control of such multiple dwelling or rental dwelling unit.
Under Chicago Ridge Ch. 14 Art. III § 14-79, a Rental Registration and Approval (RRA) license is tied to a specific property and cannot be moved or reassigned to a different dwelling. When ownership or legal control of a licensed property changes hands, the outgoing license holder must notify the village clerk in writing within 24 hours of that transfer. That written notice must identify the incoming owner or controller by name and address.
Plain English — not legal advice.
As a property owner or manager operating under an RRA license in Chicago Ridge, § 14-79 makes clear that the license does not follow you to a new property — each licensed dwelling requires its own license. When selling, transferring, or otherwise relinquishing legal control of a licensed multiple dwelling or rental unit, compliant operators submit written notice to the village clerk within 24 hours, including the full name and address of whoever is taking over. Keeping a record of that notice and the date it was submitted is a standard part of a smooth ownership transition.

Section 14-79 of Chicago Ridge Ch. 14 Art. III establishes that an RRA license cannot be transferred between properties, and that any change in ownership or control of a licensed rental dwelling must be promptly reported to the village clerk. If you are a tenant and your building changes ownership, this provision means the new owner is expected to have their own valid license and to have been identified in a timely notice to the village. Tenants who have questions about whether a property is properly licensed may contact the Village of Chicago Ridge directly or reach out to a local tenant-rights organization for general guidance.
