Chicago Ridge — Ch. 14 Art. III Rental Units and Dwellings § 14-83
Reinstatement of license
Operative Text
If, upon reinspection, the village finds that the multiple dwelling, common areas or rental dwelling unit in connection with which the notice was issued is now in compliance with this chapter and with the applicable rules and fire, building and zoning code regulations issued pursuant thereto, the fire marshal or his designee may recommend reinstatement of the license to the village.
Section 14-83 of Chicago Ridge's Ch. 14 Art. III establishes a pathway for restoring a rental license that was previously suspended or revoked. After a reinspection confirms that the multiple dwelling, common areas, or rental unit now meets the requirements of the chapter along with applicable fire, building, and zoning codes, the fire marshal or a designee may recommend to the village that the license be reinstated. The provision makes reinstatement contingent on demonstrated compliance, not merely the passage of time.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Under § 14-83, operators whose rental licenses have been suspended or revoked can pursue reinstatement by bringing the property into full compliance with Ch. 14 Art. III and all related fire, building, and zoning code requirements. Compliant operators typically address every cited deficiency before requesting a reinspection, since the fire marshal's recommendation to the village depends on a finding of actual compliance at the time of that inspection. Maintaining thorough records of corrective work completed can support a smooth reinspection process.

Section 14-83 means that a landlord whose rental license was pulled must pass a reinspection before the village can restore that license, giving tenants a measure of assurance that the property must meet code standards before operations resume under a reinstated license. Tenants who are aware of ongoing code violations or who believe a reinspection was conducted improperly may contact the Village of Chicago Ridge directly or reach out to a local tenant-rights organization for guidance on available options. Understanding this reinstatement process can help tenants recognize where they stand when a property's license status is in question.
