For Property Managers

Property owners and managers operating under Clarendon Hills Ch. 27 Fair Housing § 27.3 generally ensure that all prospective buyers and tenants are offered the same terms, conditions, and access to listings regardless of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Compliant operators review all advertising, signage, and written communications to confirm that no language or imagery suggests a preference or limitation based on protected characteristics. Listing agreements are also reviewed to ensure they do not authorize or permit any of the discriminatory practices enumerated in § 27.3.

For Tenants

Under Clarendon Hills Ch. 27 Fair Housing § 27.3, tenants and prospective tenants have the right to be shown, offered, and rented real estate on the same terms as anyone else, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. If a person believes they have been refused a showing, offered different rental terms, or denied access to listings in violation of § 27.3, they may consider documenting the incident and exploring options such as filing a fair housing complaint with a relevant agency or consulting a tenant-rights organization. Federal fair housing agencies, including the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, also accept complaints related to housing discrimination of this nature.
