Operative Text
(a) Each day that any building is not registered in accordance with the provisions of section 6-143 and 6-144 of this article shall constitute a separate and distinct offense. (b) In addition to any of the penalties provided in this article, any person committing an offense under section 6-148 of this article shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined not less than fifty dollars ($50.00) nor more than five hundred dollars ($500.00) for the first offense, and not less than two hundred dollars ($200.00) nor more than eight hundred dollars ($800.00) for the second and each subsequent offense in any one hundred eighty-day period. (c) The intentional submission of false information on a registration statement or an amended registration statement filed pursuant to sections 6-143 and 6-144 of this article shall be an offense punishable by a fine of not less than five hundred dollars ($500.00) nor more than one thousand dollars ($1,000.00). Each day that such information remains uncorrected by the owner(s) shall constitute a separate and distinct offense.
East Hazel Crest Ch. 6 Art. VIII § 6-148 establishes a tiered penalty structure for violations related to the registration of multiple dwellings. Each day a building remains unregistered counts as its own separate offense, and fines escalate for repeat violations within a 180-day window. Submitting false information on a registration statement carries its own distinct fines, and each day that false information goes uncorrected by the owner is treated as an additional separate offense.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Operators of multiple dwellings in East Hazel Crest should be aware that § 6-148 imposes daily fines for any period a building is out of compliance with the registration requirements of §§ 6-143 and 6-144. Compliant operators ensure registrations are filed accurately and on time, and promptly correct any errors on registration statements to avoid compounding daily penalties. Repeat violations within a 180-day period trigger a higher fine range, so maintaining up-to-date and truthful registration records is a core operational practice.
