For Property Managers

Under § 22-264, compliant rental property operators in Edwardsville maintain an active registration with the city before leasing or operating any unit, and renew that registration before each January 1st deadline. Operators also ensure that no outstanding fees or fines are owed to the city, since unpaid obligations block the ability to register. If the city ever denies or revokes a registration, the owner or their agent is entitled to written notice explaining the reasons and has the right to pursue an appeal as outlined in the article.

For Tenants

Section 22-264 of Edwardsville's Ch. 22 Art. VIII requires that any rental property be properly registered with the city before it is leased or operated, giving tenants a basis to inquire whether their landlord holds a valid, current registration. If a landlord is operating without registration—or has had registration revoked—that may constitute a violation of city ordinance, which tenants can raise with the City of Edwardsville or reference when consulting a local tenant-rights organization. Tenants who have concerns about their landlord's registration status may consider contacting the city directly to verify compliance under this provision.
