Hanover Park — Ch. 82 Rental Residential Housing Code § 82-19
Penalty
Operative Text
(a) Any owner, property agent, occupant or person who fails to comply with any section of this chapter applicable to him and continues in this failure after due notice and opportunity to correct, given pursuant to this chapter, upon conviction thereof, shall be subject to a fine of not less than $100.00 nor more than $1,500.00 for each day each section of this Code is violated after expiration of the time for correction of the violations. (b) Nothing in this chapter shall prevent the village from taking any other legal or equitable remedies available to the village, including any emergency action permitted by law when any portion of the rental residential building is a danger to persons or property.
Hanover Park Ch. 82 § 82-19 establishes that any owner, property agent, occupant, or other person who fails to correct a code violation after receiving proper notice can face a daily fine ranging from $100 to $1,500 for each section of the code that remains violated. The provision also preserves the village's ability to pursue additional legal or equitable remedies, including emergency action when a rental building poses a danger to people or property. The penalty clock begins after the correction period granted in the notice has expired.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Under Hanover Park Ch. 82 § 82-19, compliant operators typically respond promptly to any notice of violation and complete all required corrections within the timeframe specified in that notice. Because fines can accrue at up to $1,500 per day per violated code section, property managers generally document their remediation steps and maintain records showing timely compliance. Operators should also be aware that the village retains the right to pursue emergency legal action independently of the standard notice-and-fine process.

Hanover Park Ch. 82 § 82-19 provides that landlords, property agents, and others who ignore code violations after notice can face substantial daily fines, which reflects the village's interest in maintaining safe rental housing. If a tenant believes a rental unit has unaddressed code violations, general enforcement paths include contacting the village directly to report the condition or consulting a local tenant-rights organization for guidance on available options. The provision also notes that the village may take emergency action when a building poses a danger, which can be a relevant avenue when conditions are serious.
