No cancellation fee shall be assessed if the applicant or licensee shall cancel at least 24 hours prior to the previously scheduled inspection. Cancellation fees for inspections canceled within 24 hours of the time for a previously scheduled inspection shall be as set forth in Village Code, chapter 38 , section 38-22-610. E. Failure to register or apply for a license will be as assessed in Village Code, chapter 38 , section 38-22-610. Fees for such inspections or reinspections shall be paid by the owner prior to the performance of said inspection or reinspection and shall be as set forth in Village Code, chapter 38 , section 22-600 et seq.
Under Norridge Ch. 22 Art. XII § 22-610, the rental property inspection process begins with an initial inspection after which the owner is notified of any code violations or told no follow-up is needed. The first inspection and one follow-up compliance inspection are included at no extra charge when tied to an initial license application, but additional follow-up inspections beyond that carry fees set elsewhere in the Village Code. Cancellations made at least 24 hours before a scheduled inspection incur no fee, while late cancellations, missed inspections, and failures to register or apply for a license each trigger separate fee assessments referenced in the same chapter.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Property owners operating under Norridge Ch. 22 Art. XII § 22-610 generally ensure their rental units are ready for inspection on the scheduled date, since missing an appointment or canceling with less than 24 hours' notice results in assessed fees. Compliant operators pay any required follow-up inspection fees before the reinspection is performed, as the Village Code requires advance payment. Owners who have not yet registered or applied for a license should be aware that failure to do so carries its own fee assessment under the same section.

Norridge Ch. 22 Art. XII § 22-610 establishes a structured inspection and licensing process for rental properties, which is designed to ensure that rental units meet local code standards. Tenants whose units have identified code violations may find it useful to know that follow-up compliance inspections are part of this process, and that the landlord bears responsibility for associated fees. Tenants who believe their unit has unaddressed code violations can look into contacting the Village of Norridge's code enforcement office or a local tenant-rights organization to understand what options may be available to them.
