Ann Arbor — Ch. 105 Housing Code § 8:517 establishes a public registry of rental property owners and their premises, maintained by the Building Department. Before leasing, owners of rental dwelling units and abandoned dwellings must record identifying information, property addresses, and the number of units available. If a property's status changes—such as becoming vacant or abandoned—or if ownership or management details shift, the registry must be updated to reflect those changes.

Under Ann Arbor — Ch. 105 Housing Code § 8:517, compliant rental property operators register with the Building Department before offering any unit for lease, providing their name, date of birth, business street and mailing addresses, property location, and unit count. If an agent manages the property, that agent's corresponding details are also entered into the registry. Operators keep the registry current whenever addresses change, unit counts shift, or a property transitions between occupied, vacant, and abandoned status—and they ensure that the owner, representative, or agent listed for notices maintains a residence or office within 25 miles of Ann Arbor.

Ann Arbor — Ch. 105 Housing Code § 8:517 gives tenants access to a publicly maintained registry through the Building Department, where they can look up the registered owner or agent for any rental property. If a landlord or agent cannot be identified or reached, this registry may help tenants locate the responsible party for maintenance requests, notices, or legal service. Tenants who believe a property is not properly registered may contact the Ann Arbor Building Department to report a potential violation or consult a local tenant-rights organization for guidance on available options.
