Section 5.42.030 of Livonia's Rental Dwellings ordinance establishes what information must be included when someone applies for a license to operate a hotel, lodginghouse, or roominghouse. The written application, submitted to the city clerk on an official form, must cover the applicant's identity and ownership interest, details about any partnership or corporate structure, a room-by-room inventory of the rental space, and information about any family members living on the premises. The provision also allows additional information requirements to be set by regulations authorized elsewhere in the chapter.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Operators seeking a license under § 5.42.030 generally prepare a complete written application on the city clerk's official form before beginning operations. A compliant application typically includes full ownership and entity information, a detailed room inventory specifying room sizes, bed counts, sanitary facilities, and maximum occupancy, as well as a description of any family accommodations on site. Operators also stay attentive to any supplemental requirements issued under Section 5.42.120, which may expand what the application must contain.

Section 5.42.030 requires that anyone operating a rental dwelling such as a roominghouse or lodginghouse in Livonia hold a license backed by a detailed application on file with the city clerk. Tenants who have questions about whether their building is properly licensed may request public records from the city clerk's office or contact local housing authorities to verify compliance. Tenant-rights organizations can help residents understand what remedies or complaint processes may be available if a landlord appears to be operating without a valid license under this chapter.
