Bloomington, Minn., Code of Ordinances § 15.186 establishes that demolition permit fees are generally set by the City's fee schedule in Appendix A. However, when a standard building permit and a demolition permit are issued at the same time, no separate fee is charged for the demolition permit. This fee waiver applies only in that simultaneous-issuance scenario.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Under § 15.186, property owners or managers planning a demolition project should be aware that the standard demolition permit fee is determined by City Code Appendix A. Operators who are also pulling a new building permit for the same project at the same time may avoid paying a separate demolition permit fee. Coordinating the timing of permit applications with the City of Bloomington's permitting office is a common practice for those seeking to take advantage of this provision.

Section 15.186 of Bloomington's Code of Ordinances governs the fees associated with building demolition permits, which can be relevant to tenants living in buildings slated for demolition. While this provision primarily addresses permit fee structures rather than tenant protections, tenants facing displacement due to a planned demolition may wish to consult local tenant-rights organizations to understand what additional protections or notice requirements may apply. Reviewing the broader Bloomington Code of Ordinances and reaching out to the City's housing or planning department can help tenants understand the full scope of any demolition process affecting their home.
