For Property Managers

Property owners or managers who employ or seek to become licensed evaluators under § 248.180 should be aware that the licensing process is governed by the city's building official, who sets eligibility standards and exam scheduling. A compliant operator pursuing this license ensures applications are submitted at least ten business days before the exam, includes all required employment and education history, and confirms eligibility requirements are met in advance. Because application data is public under the Minnesota Data Practices Act, operators should expect that submitted information may be accessible to any member of the public.

For Tenants

While § 248.180 primarily governs the licensing of evaluators rather than tenant rights directly, tenants may have an interest in knowing that evaluator license applications are public data under the Minnesota Data Practices Act and can be requested by any person. This transparency provision means tenants or tenant-rights organizations can review who has applied for an evaluator license in Minneapolis. Those with questions about how evaluator licensing affects their housing situation may wish to consult a tenant-rights organization or contact the city's building official for more information.
