For Property Managers

Under § 182-56, compliant property owners and lessors typically file the required registration forms with the Housing Code Inspector within the 90-day window after forms are mailed, ensuring that all contact information, property descriptions, and floor layout diagrams are accurate and complete. Operators who live or work outside Auburn and do not maintain a regular local business presence generally designate a local agent — someone who resides in or regularly conducts business in the municipality — to receive violation orders on their behalf. Keeping registration information current helps ensure that any official notices reach the right party without delay.

For Tenants

Section 182-56 of Auburn's Code of Ordinances establishes a registration system that gives the Housing Code Inspector a reliable record of who owns and manages rental properties, along with key details about each unit. This means tenants have a publicly accessible point of contact — the registered owner, lessor, or their designated local agent — through whom housing code concerns can be directed or escalated. Tenants who believe a landlord has failed to register or has provided inaccurate information may consider contacting the Auburn Housing Code Inspector's office to inquire about the property's registration status or to explore available complaint processes.
