Section 215-8 of the Cohoes Code of Ordinances establishes a regulatory framework for transient-occupancy dwellings — such as motels, rooming houses, dormitories, and fraternities — operating within the city. These properties must undergo quarterly inspections and pay an annual fee of $150 plus $15 per unit before each inspection is conducted by the Code Enforcement Department. Properties that pass inspection receive an annual operating permit, and operating without that permit is a violation of the chapter subject to penalties under § 215-15.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Operators of Group B2 Multiple Dwelling - Transient Occupancy properties in Cohoes must comply with § 215-8 by paying the annual fee of $150 plus $15 per unit before each inspection cycle and scheduling the required quarterly inspections with the Code Enforcement Department. Compliant operators ensure their properties meet the minimum occupancy standards in Article V of Chapter 215 and the New York State Uniform Code before inspections occur. Maintaining a current annual operating permit is essential, as operating without one after January 1, 2002 exposes the owner, managing agent, or person in charge to the penalties outlined in § 215-15.
