Plain English

Section 77-65 of Oneida's Code of Ordinances establishes standards for how air intake and exhaust openings in ventilation systems must be installed, positioned, and maintained. The rule requires that these openings draw air from uncontaminated sources, prevent fire, smoke, fumes, or foreign matter from entering the system, and avoid creating hazards or nuisances. Where fuel-burning equipment shares a space with mechanical exhaust openings, the provision specifically requires fixed exterior intake openings to ensure that equipment operates safely and without interference.

For Property Managers

Property owners and managers operating under ch. 77 § 77-65 generally ensure that all ventilation intake and exhaust openings are sited, installed, and kept in a condition that prevents contamination and fire risk. Compliant operators verify that any space housing fuel-burning equipment has fixed exterior intake openings sized to supply adequate combustion air. Routine inspections of these openings — checking for blockages, improper placement, or deterioration — are a standard part of maintaining compliance with this provision.

Tenants who observe these conditions may document them and report the issue to the local code enforcement or housing authority in Oneida.
