Section 77-84 of Oneida's Code of Ordinances establishes construction and maintenance standards for water supply tanks in residential and other buildings. Tanks must be watertight, verminproof, rodentproof, corrosion-resistant, and capable of handling normal working pressures, while their supports must be made of noncombustible materials. The provision also requires that tanks used for potable water, standpipe, or automatic sprinkler systems deliver water in sufficient quantity and pressure, and that a means of emptying each tank be kept in working order.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Property owners and managers subject to ch. 77 § 77-84 generally ensure that all water supply tanks are inspected and maintained to remain watertight, free of vermin and rodent access, and structurally sound under normal operating pressures. Compliant operators use noncombustible materials for tank supports and avoid loading those supports with unrelated equipment or structures unless the system was specifically engineered for such dual use. Maintaining functional drain or emptying mechanisms and verifying that potable, standpipe, and sprinkler tanks deliver adequate water pressure are also standard parts of ongoing property maintenance under this section.

Under § 77-84 of Oneida's Code of Ordinances, tenants have an interest in knowing that water supply tanks serving their building must meet specific safety and sanitary standards, including being verminproof and delivering sufficient water pressure. If a tank appears to be leaking, structurally compromised, or failing to supply adequate water, that condition may constitute a code violation that can be reported to the appropriate local code enforcement or housing authority in Oneida. Tenants can also consult a tenant-rights organization to understand how a documented violation under ch. 77 § 77-84 might be raised in housing or habitability proceedings.
