For Property Managers

Property owners and managers operating under § 332-5.1 of the Peekskill Code generally keep grass and weeds trimmed below 10 inches, maintain ground cover to prevent soil erosion, and routinely inspect hedges and trees to ensure they do not obstruct roadway or sidewalk sightlines. Plantings required under a site plan approval should be replaced promptly if they die. When a notice of violation is issued under this section, compliant operators address the cited condition within the 14-day remediation window to avoid the $250 fine and potential city abatement action under § C205 of the Peekskill City Charter.

For Tenants

Tenants who observe overgrown grass, noxious vegetation, or sight-obstructing shrubbery on a rental property may have grounds to raise concerns under § 332-5.1 of the Peekskill Code, since responsibility for compliance is placed on the owner, agent, or responsible person in charge of the property. If a notice of violation has been issued, the city requires the condition to be corrected within 14 days, and failure to comply can result in a $250 fine or city-initiated abatement. Tenants seeking to understand their options can consult local tenant-rights organizations or contact the City of Peekskill directly to learn how complaints about property maintenance conditions are handled.
