Section 108-26 of Rye, N.Y., Code of Ordinances Chapter 108 establishes safety standards for fuel gas systems in buildings, covering everything from piping integrity and shutoff valves to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage and pressure regulation. The rule requires that gas piping remain gastight and capable of meeting appliance demand, that accessible shutoff valves be present and functional, and that service equipment be protected from damage. Special provisions address high-pressure gas connections, gas appliances like refrigerators and ranges, and the safe handling of LPG containers, including requirements for pressure-relief devices and exterior shutoff access.

For Property Managers

Property owners and managers operating under Rye, N.Y., Code ch. 108 § 108-26 generally ensure that all fuel gas piping is regularly inspected for leaks and maintained in gastight condition, with individual shutoff valves installed near each gas appliance outlet. Compliant operators keep service equipment, meters, and pressure regulators protected from physical damage, and verify that any high-pressure connections include the required pressure-reduction devices. For properties using liquefied petroleum gas, operators typically confirm that LPG containers are safely sited, equipped with pressure-relief devices, and served by an accessible exterior shutoff valve maintained in good working order.
