The rules apply broadly to land parcels with residential or mixed-use buildings, all types of residential structures (including one- and two-family homes and multi-unit dwellings), residential portions of mixed-occupancy buildings, and accessory structures tied to residential uses. Under § 108-3 of Rye's Chapter 108, property owners and managers operating any type of residential building—from single-family homes to multi-unit dwellings—as well as mixed-use properties with residential occupancies and associated accessory structures, are generally subject to the chapter's requirements. Compliant operators typically confirm whether their specific property type falls within this scope or qualifies for an exclusion listed in § 108-4 before determining their obligations. Keeping clear records of a property's classification and occupancy type helps demonstrate compliance with the chapter's applicability rules.
