Should a unit fail inspection, the initial reinspection shall be free of charge; however, each subsequent reinspection thereafter until that unit passes shall result in a reinspection fee of $50 per unit being reinspected.Watervliet, N.Y., Code of Ordinances ch. 176 § 176-7 establishes a fee structure for rental unit compliance inspections. A standard inspection costs $50 per unit, paid before the inspection takes place. Owners or agents who fail to show up within 15 minutes of a scheduled inspection, or who cancel with less than 24 hours' notice, are each charged $250 per unit. If a unit fails inspection, the first reinspection is free, but any additional reinspections required before the unit passes cost $50 per unit each.
Plain English — not legal advice.
Under § 176-7, compliant property owners and managers pay the $50-per-unit inspection fee in full before the scheduled inspection date and ensure an authorized representative is present within 15 minutes of the appointment. Operators who need to cancel generally do so well in advance of the 24-hour threshold to avoid the $250-per-unit late-cancellation fee. When a unit fails inspection, owners typically address all noted deficiencies before requesting a reinspection, since only the first reinspection is free and each subsequent one carries a $50-per-unit charge.
