Yonkers, N.Y., Code of Ordinances ch. 58 § 58-13 establishes minimum security hardware requirements for dwelling units. Entrance doors must have a heavy-duty lockset with a deadbolt or auxiliary latch bolt, a chain doorguard, and a viewing device (peephole) so occupants can see who is outside before opening the door. All openable windows must have sash locks operable only from the inside, and ground-accessible windows may also have interior-lockable grilles, provided those windows are not required exit paths.

Property owners and managers subject to Yonkers, N.Y., Code of Ordinances ch. 58 § 58-13 generally ensure that every dwelling unit entrance door is fitted with a qualifying heavy-duty lockset, a deadbolt or auxiliary latch bolt, a chain doorguard, and a peephole viewer at an accessible height. Compliant operators also verify that every openable window carries an inside-only sash lock, and that any grilles installed on grade-accessible, non-exit windows are lockable from the interior. Routine inspections of these hardware components help operators maintain ongoing compliance as locks and hardware wear over time.
