Alabama Administrative Code Rule 535-X-11-.09 establishes the minimum informational requirements for heating and air conditioning plan drawings that must accompany permit submissions under Rule 535-X-11-.07. These plans must document a comprehensive set of technical details, including equipment locations, heat loss calculations, duct specifications, clearances from combustible materials, and methods for securing appliances against vibration and shock. The rule ensures that reviewing authorities have enough detail to evaluate whether a proposed HVAC system meets safety and performance standards before construction or installation begins.

Property owners and managers overseeing construction or renovation projects in Alabama should be aware that Rule 535-X-11-.09 sets out specific documentation that must appear on submitted HVAC plan drawings. Compliant operators typically work with licensed HVAC designers or engineers to prepare drawings that include equipment schedules with manufacturer details and BTU ratings, duct layouts with materials and sizes, clearance notations, combustion and return air methods, and fire damper approvals. Ensuring all eleven required elements are addressed before submission helps avoid plan-review delays or rejection.

For tenants in Alabama, Rule 535-X-11-.09 is part of the regulatory framework that governs how heating and cooling systems must be documented and reviewed before installation in residential buildings. When HVAC work is performed in a rental unit, this rule is one of the standards that should have been satisfied during the permitting process, helping to ensure that installed systems are safe and properly specified. Tenants who have concerns about whether permitted HVAC work met applicable requirements may contact their local building department or a tenant-rights organization for general information about how to raise such concerns.
