Property owners subject to D.C. Code § 42-2851.01 et seq. § 42-2851.07 should be aware that civil fines for noncompliance can reach up to five times the actual costs and damages caused by a violation, making compliance a significant financial consideration. Operators who maintain thorough records of their compliance efforts and respond promptly to any notices of violation are generally better positioned to address potential enforcement actions. Fines left unpaid within the period set by regulation may trigger formal enforcement proceedings initiated by the Mayor's office.
