Cal. Civ. Code § 32-31-7-1
Application
Operative Text
Sec. 1. (a) Except as provided in subsection (b), this chapter applies only to dwelling units that are let for rent under a rental agreement entered into after June 30, 2002. (b) This chapter does not apply to dwelling units that are let for rent with an option to purchase under an agreement entered into before July 1, 2008.
Indiana Code § 32-31-7-1 defines the scope of the chapter governing rental dwelling units. As a general rule, the chapter's protections and requirements apply only to units rented under agreements entered into after June 30, 2002. However, the chapter carves out an exception: dwelling units rented with an option to purchase under agreements made before July 1, 2008 are not covered by this chapter at all.

Under Ind. Code § 32-31-7-1, property owners and managers should be aware that the obligations set out in this chapter attach to rental agreements for dwelling units that were entered into after June 30, 2002. Operators handling rent-to-own arrangements should note that agreements with a purchase option that predate July 1, 2008 fall outside this chapter's requirements. Compliant operators typically review the date and structure of each rental agreement to determine whether this chapter's rules apply to a given unit.
