For Property Managers

Ind. Code § 36-1-24-5 establishes that a property qualifies as 'permitted property' only when its permit remains valid, unexpired, and unrevoked. Operators who rent out dwelling units on a short-term basis generally ensure their permit is kept current and in good standing to meet this definition. Letting a permit lapse or having it revoked would remove the property from 'permitted' status under this chapter.

For Tenants

Ind. Code § 36-1-24-5 defines what it means for a short-term rental property to be 'permitted,' which can be relevant to tenants or guests evaluating whether a unit is operating legally. If a property's permit has expired or been revoked, it would no longer qualify as a permitted property under this chapter. Tenants or guests who have concerns about a property's permit status may wish to contact the relevant local permitting authority or consult a tenant-rights organization for guidance.
