B. An offense pursuant to this section is a misdemeanor.
Oklahoma law under 25 O.S. § 1506.9 makes it a misdemeanor for any person to use force or the threat of force to intimidate or interfere with someone's housing activities — such as buying, renting, or negotiating for a dwelling — when that interference is motivated by the target's race, color, religion, gender, disability, familial status, or national origin. The prohibition also covers intimidating people who help others participate in housing activities free from discrimination, or who encourage equal participation. This rule applies regardless of whether the offending party is acting under official authority or as a private individual.

Property owners and managers operating in Oklahoma should be aware that 25 O.S. § 1506.9 extends beyond administrative fair-housing rules to the realm of criminal law. Compliant operators ensure that no one associated with their business — including staff, agents, or contractors — uses force or threats to discourage any person from renting, purchasing, or otherwise engaging in housing transactions based on protected characteristics. Maintaining clear anti-intimidation policies and training for all personnel reflects the standard of conduct this provision contemplates.

Under 25 O.S. § 1506.9, tenants and prospective renters have a legal protection against anyone who uses force or threats to interfere with their housing activities because of their race, color, religion, gender, disability, familial status, or national origin. Because a violation of this section is a criminal misdemeanor, affected individuals may report incidents to local law enforcement or the Oklahoma district attorney's office, in addition to exploring civil fair-housing complaint channels. Tenant-rights organizations can help explain the range of options available when someone believes this provision has been violated.
