R.I. Gen. Laws ch. 45-24.2 § 45-24.2-5.1

Plain English

Section 45-24.2-5.1 of Rhode Island General Laws is a savings clause that limits the reach of the preceding section, § 45-24.2-5. It clarifies that whatever § 45-24.2-5 does or changes, it does not disturb any other part of Chapter 45-24.2 or any appointments that were made under the chapter's authority. All such provisions and appointments continue to operate as if § 45-24.2-5 had not altered them.

For Property Managers

For property owners or managers operating under Rhode Island's Chapter 45-24.2, § 45-24.2-5.1 provides assurance that any board memberships, official appointments, or other provisions established under the chapter remain valid and unchanged. Compliant operators generally continue to recognize and interact with any appointed officials or bodies as they did before § 45-24.2-5 took effect. No administrative restructuring stemming from § 45-24.2-5 affects the standing authority of those previously appointed positions.

For Tenants

Under § 45-24.2-5.1, tenants can take note that any rights, protections, or oversight bodies established elsewhere in Rhode Island's Chapter 45-24.2 remain intact and were not diminished by § 45-24.2-5. If a tenant believes a right under another part of the chapter applies to their situation, that right continues in full force. Tenant-rights organizations familiar with Rhode Island housing law can help clarify which provisions and appointed bodies remain relevant to a given concern.
