Operative Text
Sec. 301.087. INVESTIGATIVE REPORT. (a) The commission shall prepare a final investigative report including:(1) the names of and dates of contacts with witnesses;(2) a summary of correspondence and other contacts with the aggrieved person and the respondent showing the dates of the correspondence and contacts;(3) a summary description of other pertinent records;(4) a summary of witness statements; and(5) answers to interrogatories.(b) A final report under this section may be amended if additional evidence is discovered. Added by Acts 1993, 73rd Leg., ch. 268, Sec. 40, eff. Sept. 1, 1993.
Under Texas Property Code § 301.087, when the Texas commission investigates a fair housing complaint, it is required to compile a formal final investigative report. This report must document witness contacts, correspondence with both the complainant and the respondent, relevant records, witness statements, and any interrogatory answers. The report is not necessarily locked in place — it can be updated if new evidence surfaces after the initial version is completed.

As a respondent in a fair housing investigation under Tex. Prop. Code § 301.087, property owners and managers can expect the commission to formally document all contacts, correspondence, and evidence gathered during the investigation. Compliant operators generally cooperate with information requests and maintain their own records of communications, since those interactions will be summarized in the official report. Because the report may be amended if new evidence emerges, operators should be aware that the investigative record can evolve throughout the process.
